  • 16 oz French baguette
  • 1 3/4 lb gala apples (4-6)
  • 4 Tbsp butter
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 5 large eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups whole milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp apple pie spice

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel, core, and slice the gala apples. In a skillet, melt butter and cook apples with brown sugar and apple pie spice until tender.
  3. Cut the French baguette into cubes and place in a mixing bowl.
  4. Whisk together eggs, melted butter, milk, vanilla extract, remaining brown sugar, and spices in another bowl. Pour over bread cubes and mix until saturated.
  5. In a greased casserole dish, layer half the cooked apples followed by half the bread mixture. Repeat layers and bake for about 55 minutes until golden.
