Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Cream softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy using an electric mixer.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition; stir in vanilla.
  5. Gradually combine dry ingredients with the butter mixture, alternating with milk until just combined.
  6. Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
  8. For the caramel sauce, combine brown sugar, butter, and heavy cream in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until melted and simmer for about 3–5 minutes until thickened slightly; remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
  9. Once cooled, layer the cake with caramel sauce in between layers and drizzle on top.
