  • 2 cups freshly grated sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream (or half-and-half for a lighter option)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish.
  2. Thinly slice potatoes to about an eighth of an inch using a knife or mandoline.
  3. In a saucepan, heat heavy cream with garlic powder, salt, and pepper over low heat until warm. Gradually stir in two-thirds of the cheddar until melted.
  4. Layer half of the potato slices in the greased dish, top with half the cheese sauce, followed by another layer of potatoes and the remaining sauce.
  5. Sprinkle the remaining cheddar on top.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes; then remove foil and bake an additional 15 minutes until golden brown.
