  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons brewed coffee
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking pan.
  2. In one bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In another bowl, beat butter and egg until fluffy; mix in coffee, buttermilk, and vanilla.
  3. Combine dry ingredients into wet ingredients until smooth; pour into prepared pan.
  4. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool on a wire rack.
  5. For caramel sauce: Melt brown sugar, butter, and cream in a saucepan over medium heat; simmer for 3–4 minutes until thickened. Stir in vanilla and set aside.
