  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 pastry for double pie crust
  • 23 tablespoons butter (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F.
  2. Line a 9-inch pie plate with the bottom crust and set aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg, and lemon juice until well coated.
  4. Spoon apple mixture into the pie plate and dot with butter.
  5. Roll out the second crust and place over filling; seal and crimp edges.
  6. Cut slits in the top crust and brush with an egg wash.
  7. Bake at 425°F for 15 minutes; then reduce temperature to 375°F and bake for an additional 30 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Allow to cool before serving.
