Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups warm water (105-115°F)
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup honey or sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons canola or vegetable oil
  • 4 to 5 1/2 cups all-purpose or bread flour

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl or stand mixer, combine warm water and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add honey (or sugar), salt, oil, and 3 cups of flour. Mix well and gradually incorporate more flour until the dough pulls away from the sides.
  3. Knead for 4-5 minutes using a stand mixer or by hand for 5-8 minutes until smooth.
  4. Grease a bowl, place the dough inside, cover it, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (about 1.5 hours).
  5. Punch down the dough, shape it into two logs, place them in greased loaf pans, cover them again, and let rise for about 45 minutes.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F and bake loaves for 30-33 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Cool on a wire rack before slicing.
