  • 4 slices sourdough bread
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 medium pear, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium apple, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Add onions and a pinch of salt; cook for about 10 minutes until golden brown. Stir in balsamic vinegar and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes. Remove from skillet.
  2. In the same skillet, melt remaining butter over medium heat.
  3. Layer two slices of sourdough with half the cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, apple slices, pear slices, and top with remaining cheese and second slice of bread.
  4. Grill each sandwich for about 4-5 minutes per side until golden brown and cheese is melted.
  5. Let cool briefly before slicing in half to serve warm.
