Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (for frying)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • ½ teaspoon thyme (optional)
  • 4 large russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • ½ cup milk (for mashed potatoes)
  • ¼ cup butter (for mashed potatoes)
  • ¼ cup sour cream (optional, for extra creaminess)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, onion, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until combined and form into 1-inch meatballs.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook meatballs in batches until browned on all sides (7-8 minutes). Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté sliced onions until golden brown. Stir in flour for about a minute. Gradually whisk in beef broth along with Worcestershire sauce and mustard; season to taste and simmer until thickened.
  4. Return meatballs to the skillet to coat with gravy and heat through.
  5. Meanwhile, boil cubed potatoes until tender (15-20 minutes), then mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper until creamy.
  6. Serve meatballs atop mashed potatoes with extra gravy.
