Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a jelly roll pan with parchment paper.
  2. Beat egg whites until soft peaks form; gradually add 1/4 cup sugar until stiff peaks form.
  3. In another bowl, beat egg yolks with remaining sugar; fold in sifted flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gently combine both mixtures, spread in the pan, and bake for 10-12 minutes.
  5. Roll the warm cake in a towel dusted with powdered sugar; let cool completely.
  6. Whip heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla; spread evenly on the cooled cake before rolling tightly.
  7. Prepare chocolate buttercream by mixing softened butter with powdered sugar, cocoa powder, milk, and vanilla; frost the rolled cake.
